Education Programs
Most of our families have come to the U.S. in pursuit of a better life for themselves and their children - a dream they know they can reach through education. The educational system is difficult to navigate, however, especially in another language and for those unfamiliar with the available resources.
The Latino Community Center’s education programs are designed to provide Latinx families with access to the highest quality educational opportunities. LCC’s bilingual programs mentor, tutor, and engage children and youth; supplement and enhance their in-school experience; and support, interpret, and provide resources for parents, opening the doors to a bright future and a better life!
ParentChild+ is LCC’s early childhood home visiting program. The program, designed for children ages 2-4, aims to break the cycle of poverty for low-income families by helping parents engage with their toddlers early in life via home visits focused on literacy, mathematics, school readiness, and parent-child interaction.
SOY (Supporting our Youth) Pittsburgh: Elementary School
SOY Pittsburgh: Elementary School is the bilingual, K-5th grade after school program of the Latino Community Center. Program goals include academic advancement, cultural empowerment (including Spanish language instruction), social-emotional development, and family engagement.

SOY (supporting our Youth) Pittsburgh: Middle School
SOY Pittsburgh: Middle School is the bilingual, 6th-8th grade after school program of the Latino Community Center. Program goals are the same as SOY Pgh: Elementary, but students in middle school will also begin to work on college and career preparation goals.
SOMOS Pittsburgh is LCC’s new mentorship program. SOMOS Pittsburgh pairs students in middle and high school with professional Latino mentors in the local community. Together, these mentoring pairs meet regularly each month for quality, personalized mentorship support and engagement.
SOMOS Pittsburgh Virtual Tutoring
The SOMOS Pgh Virtual Tutoring program matches pairs based on a variety of factors that lead to matches we believe are a good fit for both the families and tutors. Tutors work with students on homework support, and/or on a specific academic growth area once or twice per week depending on the family’s schedule.
ALAS Pittsburgh is LCC's bilingual, college and career readiness program for high school and post-secondary students. ALAS focuses on academic skill development and post-secondary preparedness and success through personalized coaching and our GenOne and Avanzando Through College programming
LCC’s Education Family Support program offers educational support to the region’s Latino families by addressing any education-related questions and concerns, and providing personalized follow-up and advocacy.
