Education Support
LCC’s Education Support program offers educational guidance and assistance to the region’s Latino families by addressing any education-related questions and concerns, and providing personalized follow-up and advocacy.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The goal of LCC’s Education Support program is to ensure Latino families in the region are empowered to successfully navigate and engage in the education system. LCC’s bilingual Education Liaisons personally attend to every call that comes into our Spanish Family Hotline, originally established by the Pittsburgh Learning Collaborative, ensuring families not only receive answers to questions but that they also have support through the complicated processes involved in school success. This includes (but is not limited to) assistance with school enrollment and transfers, support with conferences and meetings, translation of important school documents, and guidance when crises such as bullying or emergencies arise.
During the 2021-2022 year the Education Support program assisted 719 individuals, responding to 428 calls that came in through the PLC Family Hotline. Common topic examples include language access, academics, school enrollment, and teacher communication. Internet connectivity is still a major need, with 72 families receiving help gaining access to the Internet this year.
