Mónica Méndez
Director of Programs
Dr. Mónica Méndez is the Director of Programs at the Latino Community Center, where she leverages her expertise as a researcher, trainer, strategist, and leader to support initiatives that uplift Latinx/e communities in Allegheny County. Dr. Méndez's extensive career includes serving as the Director of Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI) at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, consulting in Latin America on gender equity and strategic skills, leading as the CEO of Dress for Success Pittsburgh, founding and directing an anti-human trafficking organization, and advocating for survivors of gender-based violence.
With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Méndez has dedicated her professional and volunteer efforts to empowering women and girls by addressing gender-based violence, economic independence, and oppressive socio-cultural norms. Her contributions to these fields have been recognized nationally and internationally, including receiving a medal from Gloria Steinem on behalf of the Veteran Feminists of America (VFA) in 2011 for her extraordinary contributions to the empowerment of women.
Dr. Méndez holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Central Florida and an MBA from Duke University. Her work has been published and presented in numerous forums, showcasing her deep commitment and passion for addressing issues affecting women and children.
