Bomba de Aquí

Bomba de Aquí is a Puerto Rican cultural project dedicated to preserving and promoting the traditions of bomba and plena through music, dance, and community education. For years, the group has shared the richness of Puerto Rican culture at festivals, schools, and cultural events, creating spaces where people of all ages can connect with their roots.

Under the direction of Saul “El Pulpo” Peñaloza and Brendaliz Cepeda, Bomba de Aquí continues its mission to keep our cultural heritage alive, inspiring pride, identity, and community engagement for present and future generations.

Bomba de Aquí

Sharina y Conjunto Guajiba is a musical ensemble dedicated to preserving and promoting traditional Puerto Rican music, bringing the spirit of Puerto Rico to every stage. Led by Roberto Piñeiro, the group unites talented musicians committed to celebrating the island’s rich cultural heritage through authentic performances rooted in tradition.

Featuring the remarkable voice of Sharina De León, a fourth-generation troubadour from the renowned Sanabria Family, the ensemble shares the richness of Puerto Rican trova and jíbaro music with audiences of all ages. Together, they inspire cultural pride and keep Puerto Rico’s musical traditions alive for future generations.

Bomba de Aquí

La Orquesta Sensacional, led by Roberto Piñeiro, is a New England-based salsa orchestra dedicated to preserving the spirit of classic salsa. Born in Chicago to Puerto Rican parents and raised in Puerto Rico, Roberto is a third-generation bongó player with an extensive musical background.

The orchestra has performed at Puerto Rican festivals throughout the region, including Puerto Rican Heritage Day at Fenway Park, the Springfield Puerto Rican Parade, and events in Hartford, New London, and Boston. They have appeared at venues such as Rivers Casino. Through a repertoire that pays tribute to salsa artists, La Orquesta Sensacional connects generations with every performance.

James O’Malley Gorbea & Asier O’Malley Gorbea

James O’Malley Gorbea is a Puerto Rican-born guitarist, vocalist, cuatrista, and composer. Classically trained since age four, he has performed throughout the Pittsburgh region in settings ranging from protests and weddings to musical productions. A graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with a BFA in Guitar Performance and Music Composition and a minor in Conducting, he is pursuing a graduate degree in Music Education focused on guitar and composition. James has written and arranged works for orchestra, solo guitar, voice, and chamber ensembles. His composition, Bomba Blues, was premiered by the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico’s Clarinet Choir under the direction of Professor Kathleen Jones. Through performance, composition, and teaching, James explores connections between musical traditions while encouraging creativity and expression.

Nelly Santiago

Nely Santiago is a Puerto Rican dancer, salsa instructor, and choreographer based in Pittsburgh. Passionate about sharing Latino culture through dance, she teaches beginner salsa in a fun and welcoming environment for all ages and experience levels. She also creates custom quinceañera choreographies, helping families celebrate unforgettable moments. Through her classes and performances, Nely inspires confidence, connection, and joy while keeping Puerto Rican traditions alive.

Artisan Market

Discover a collection of handcrafted souvenirs and accessories inspired by Puerto Rico and its cultural heritage. Lucinette will be showcasing and selling unique handmade creations, including keychains, necklaces, earrings, and other one-of-a-kind pieces that celebrate the island’s vibrant spirit.

Lucinette Alvarado Rivera is a multidisciplinary artist and artisan whose passion for creativity began in childhood through drawing and painting. She is the founder of Lucinette Alvarado Designs, where she creates handmade jewelry and artistic pieces inspired by her love of craftsmanship. Through her YouTube channel, she shares tutorials and insights into her creative process. Alongside her artistic work, Lucinette has built a distinguished career of nearly 20 years as an Industrial Hygienist, successfully combining her passions for science, art, and community engagement.

Photography Exhibit

José M. Cancel Narváez is a professional photographer originally from Ponce, Puerto Rico, whose work is shaped by a passion for visual storytelling and artistic expression. Now based in the Pittsburgh area, he brings more than 25 years of experience capturing beauty, emotion, and meaningful moments through photography. Through his business, JC Studios, he combines traditional photographic techniques with modern digital innovation to create compelling images that inspire reflection and connection.

Art Exhibition by Benito Rivera

Benito originally from New York City, relocated to Pittsburgh for a professional opportunity and currently serves as Senior Vice President and Team Leader in Business Banking at First Commonwealth Bank. Alongside his accomplished career in finance, Benito maintains a dedicated and evolving artistic practice that reflects both discipline and creative expression.

Working across pastels, acrylic, and oil, Benito’s artwork explores a range of subjects and techniques, blending structure with emotional depth. His commitment to community engagement is evident through his consistent support of nonprofit organizations, to which he donates select works. These include the Roberto Clemente Museum, the Latino Community Center, Casa San Jose, and the Live Like Lou Foundation, among others.

Benito’s work has been exhibited in notable venues, including the PACE University Art Gallery in New York, the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture in Chicago, the Monroeville Arts Festival in Pennsylvania, the Museo del Deporte de Puerto Rico in Guaynabo, and the Clemente Museum in Pittsburgh. Through both his professional and artistic pursuits, Benito demonstrates a strong commitment to excellence, cultural connection, and community impact.
