Sofia Bermeo is the Operations Manager for the Latino Community Center. Sofia has been with the LCC since its inception. She helped to establish The Welcome Center as a resource and information center to help connect Latino families with vital services in the local area. She also helped plan the first social projects for the LCC, including the La Tiendita free store, which ran from 2017-2019.

Sofia is originally from Guayaquil, Ecuador. Growing up in the suburbs of Ecuador’s biggest city, she was an active member of her local parish, participated in community building events – leading an anti-drug campaign in her neighborhood – and enjoyed dancing to any rhythm. Graduating from her business-oriented high school in 2011, she went on to study Economics and Business Administration at Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL). After graduating in 2016, she worked as the Administrator of the diocesan health care clinic in the city of Duran.

In 2016, she moved to Pittsburgh with her fiancé, a native Pittsburgher who had lived and worked in Guayaquil while she was in college. They are now happily married and are both pursuing their master’s degrees at the University of Pittsburgh. Sofia is happy to be able to use her time, energy, and talents in service to Pittsburgh’s growing Latino community.
